X Squared Angels formed in Columbus to invest in women-owned startups

X Squared Angels, the latest angel investor group to form in Columbus, has started vetting women-owned projects in Ohio and California, and will consider deals elsewhere. Ten of the group’s first 15 investors are women, and the group hopes to have 50 by year’s end.

The group will look at companies in industries such as technology, health care and consumer goods, with a strict requirement that the startup has at least one woman with substantial equity and a C-level executive role.

Members must meet federal standards as “accredited investors” and agree to be active. Rather than pooling money into a VC fund, members will make individual decisions on whether they want to invest in any one deal.
