OKC's Great Plains Microbiology researches foodborne illness tests

Oklahoma City-based Great Plains Microbiology is working to reduce illnesses caused by salmonella and listeria by creating tests that would prevent the diseases.

The Oklahoma biomed company has developed a faster and cheaper way for testing of food for bacteria by using technology developed to detect disease in humans.

Because retailers and restaurants require strict testing for foodborne illnesses, the new tests could help smaller producers to be able to sell their produce easier.
